The delimiter (comma, tab or semicolon) is detected from the first line. Files are read as UTF-8, or as Shift_JIS when they are not valid UTF-8, as Excel on Japanese Windows saves them.
Questions
Is my data uploaded?
No. Pasted text and opened files are read and converted in your browser only.
Why are some columns wider than their text?
Columns are padded so the table lines up in plain text too. Japanese, Chinese and Korean characters count as two columns, as in the Richdown formatter.
Can I turn a table without a header into Markdown?
Markdown tables always have a header row. Clear First row is the header to put every row in the body under an empty header.
Can I paste cells straight into the editor?
Yes. Pasting cells copied from a spreadsheet into the Richdown Web editor makes a Markdown table. Hold Shift while pasting to paste the plain text instead.
My CSV file shows garbled characters.
Files that are not valid UTF-8 are read as Shift_JIS. If a file uses another encoding, open it in a spreadsheet app and save it as CSV UTF-8.
